Meet Dr. Jennifer Garza
Dr. Jennifer Garza
What happens when you are a teenager with braces and want to undergo jaw surgery to correct a significant overbite and the outcome is far from ideal? You become an orthodontist to help others, as is the case with Dr. Jennifer Garza. Driven by a need to determine why her orthodontic treatment and surgery failed, she started her orthodontic career as an orthodontic assistant and began her undergraduate studies at the University of Denver. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 1996, with an Honor’s Thesis in Neurobiology, all within 3 years. She graduated from the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry with her Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 2000 and continued along with becoming Chief Resident at New York University for her Certificate in Orthodontics in 2002. Because of her outstanding performance as Chief Resident, she was awarded the prestigious Theodore L. Jerrold Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence upon graduation. In her never-ending drive to ensure that what happened to her as a teenager would never happen to any of her patients, she furthered her education with a two-year course in Advanced Education in Orthodontics at the University of Detroit while balancing residency and then private practice.
On a personal note, Dr. Jennifer Garza was born and raised in Colorado and moved to the south in 2015. She is the oldest of three sisters. She has been married to her high school sweetheart, Frank, for over 33 years. They have four kitties, which are their four-legged fur babies. They both enjoy car shows with their 1978 Pontiac Trans Ams with T-Tops (Bandit style), traveling, hiking, and spending time with good friends and family.
